ECEPTS APPRENTICESHIPS
Apprenticeships are unique among workforce development programs in that they bring together on-the-job training and coaching, college coursework and increased compensation as program milestones are achieved. ECEPTS Apprenticeships represent an effort to further develop, expand and replicate the apprenticeships first created in partnership with the SEIU Early Educator Training Center so that more and more sectors of the early care and education (ECE)
workforce can participate in and benefit from apprenticeship programs. (Click here for information.)
The over-arching aim of ECEPTS Apprenticeships is to recast entry level ECE positions from
being seen as "dead-end jobs" to being on-ramps and springboards to well-paid careers in ECE
and a variety of related, respected fields. ECEPTS Apprenticeships are research-based,
economical, scalable models that reflect a collaborative, state-of-the-art approach to increasing skills, knowledge and competencies of ECE workers. As a model of ECE professional development,
ECEPTS Apprenticeships offer significant benefits to individual workers, the ECE workforce, and
the field of early care and education and related fields. (Click here for more information.)
The various ECEPTS Apprenticeship program models address existing education and training
gaps by offering innovative, multi-level programs designed to support the success of working adults with structured on-the-job learning, coaching and mentoring, coordinated college coursework with academic supports, professional learning communities, and increased compensation that does not place the financial burden on families. (Click here for more information.)
Through participation in ECEPTS Apprenticeships, low-income ECE workers earn college credit
that articulates to state-recognized Child Development Permits and college degrees required
for higher-wage positions of greater leadership and responsibility. These state-registered apprenticeships can establish a pipeline of qualified workers and a career pathway to self-sufficiency for thousands of low-income, mostly female workers who make up the Early Care
and Education workforce in California. (Click here for more information.)
